my local yarn shop (LYS, to those of you not in the know) opened up about a year and a half ago. i found it during my fact-finding mission when i was considering opening up my own store. Lisa's store was everything i wanted mine to be... organized clutter, homey, lots of stuff to look at. my sister started going to the Friday night movie group when she learned to embroider (and even before that, she would draw). then she learned to knit and we both started going. we've been to the last 5 or 6 movie fridays. last week, i suggested a pot luck for thanksgiving, which is why i made mashed potatoes.
so, we knit and ate and watched "hellboy" (which is unfortunate due to the addition of selma blair). we took lisa home, and then i took shannon home. and then i went home after a short drive around uptown.
as i was walking home from my parked car, i was hoping this friday would be a lot less eventful than last friday. last friday was pretty much an exact replica of this friday, with the exception of around 10:45 when fire trucks showed up outside our building. about a half hour later, we found out that our neighbor, shannon delaney, had died in her apartment. after a weekend of mistaken cat identity, meeting her friends and family i should have met under better circumstances, and wondering what the hell happened, i couldn't wait for monday. but alas, she was gone, and always going to be gone from now on. i realized that i wouldn't ever run into her on the street. i wouldn't see her at association meetings. i wouldn't hear her voice over our intercom announcing the arrival of her association check. we wouldn't be babysitting each others cats when we went on vacation. it's weird that i should miss someone that i didn't really see all that much, but i really enjoyed running into her. we won't ever share lawn mowing responsibilities. oh, well. now i am taking care of her cat while all of her friends are in boston for her funeral. i have new keys to her apartment (her parents changed the locks) and i get to go into her now-almost-empty abode, see the couch she passed away on, look at all of her things packed up. she'll never come home again. i went into the second bedroom to fill Gizmo's bowl and i noticed a picture on a cabinet that i must have walked passed a dozen times before. this time i picked it up. it was a picture of her and friend in some scenic environment. it's just all such a waste.
so, that was last weekend.
last night i had a dream about an ex. he seems to be a reoccurring theme in my mind. in this dream i was with annette and we were going to be meeting up with a bunch of friends from college at a resort and he was going to be there. i was really nervous and tried not to get my hopes up that he would talk to me. and then i saw him. he was wearing a green and white striped shirt. and he looked like he did in college because i haven't seen him since then. he pretty much ignored me, but wasn't rude. we all met up in the lobby of the resort, then went down to the beach. while we were walking, there was a group of stoned kids driving their car down the beach. we didn't really pay much attention to them. i kept trying to equally stay out of steve's line of sight and get his attention. then they went back inside and i stayed out. i noticed that the car of stoners was driving into the lake. they were all laughing like idiots. i think i may have ran up to the resort to tell someone. it became this huge crowd-gathering thing as people watched to see if they would resurface. i remember standing next to steve, waiting and watching. i think either he or i said something and the other replied and that was the extent of our interaction. i don't remember how the dream ended.
my dreams of steve go one of two ways: either he completely ignores me or he's all over me, saying he's sorry and all that. i guess i would find it strange that i still dream about him after all these years, but i had a dream about a guy i had a crush on in the 8th grade the other night. totally random.
today, i am going to bake bread, go shopping with my sister, scott is probably going to make chili if we can get him the ingredients on time. i should do homework, but i really don't want to. oh, and i'll probably knit. big shocker there. i have about 5 projects i'm working on now. maybe i'll finish one one of these days. not bloody likely.
