computers: what they have done for me lately
nothing.
i started having problems thursday night. i had started my freelance gig, which was going to be short-lived unless i could learn a program named "fireworks 8," which does internet image stuff. i think when i installed the free 30-day trial software, things started acting weird. my limewire wouldn't launch. then illustrator wouldn't launch. my fonts started doing weird things. i threw some stuff away, i organized my fonts, i totally dismantled Suticase... nothing helped. after i had restarted for about the millionth time, it took about 30 seconds for anything to register once i clicked on it.
it. was. really. annoying.
so, i thought, hey, i know computers. i'll just re-install the system software and that will help! i dug out my install disks (which hadn't been touched since i got my laptop) and put the first one in. my computer said it couldn't restart from that disk as it didn't have bootable software on it. none of them would, it turns out. so i manually restarted my computer and restarted. i installed the software. and then.... my screen was totally small in the center of my monitor. and nothing would work.
commence hissy fit.
after crying like a little girl, i went to microcenter. turns out that the disks i have aren't supposed to go with my iBook. damn apple. the tech at microcenter got it to "work" (ie, the screen isn't 5" wide anymore and things react when you click on them) but it's still not to where it was before. things like text edit and preview don't work. but i called apple and bitched and they're sending me the right software. so maybe i'll be up and running soon.
i hate technology when it doesn't work.
