the quandary to breeding
this is a response from a dear friend who is currently residing in oxford, UK. and it's totally true.
The problem with population, of course, is that the “wrong” people are breeding. (Though it’s probably politically uncorrect to say so.) Birth rates in first world countries have been dropping for a while, and it’s most noticeable among more-educated people. In Europe they are very worried that state-run social security programs will completely collapse because we will soon reach a point where there are too many retired people and not enough people paying taxes into the fund. Which is also an issue in the US, of course. The main problem is that the people who seem to have the most children are those who can least afford them. Births per 1000 population in Italy: 9. Births per 1000 population in Mali: 50. The rate of natural increase in the US is only 0.5%, and in many European countries it is in negative figures. Although, I suppose that people in developed countries hog the most resources, so maybe it is us who need to stop breeding after all.... just don’t count too much on your 401k.
so i guess my beef isn't with smart people who are breeding... it's the rich, entitled republicans and the poor entitled republicans. and i know a lot of my friends' parents are poor republicans (which seems to be a contradictory term), but i'm not trying to win a popularity contest with my anti-procreationist views. the religious, moral majority have been shoving this breeding culture down our throats to further their own agendas. now i'm voicing my opinion to furture mine. i want a nation of well-behaved, quiet children. i want to go back to the time when the parent was in charge. and until adults can get it through their heads that it shouldn't be their goal to be their kid's best friend, i think breeding should stop.
if you're not going to raise your kid to not be a selfish, republican, entitled asshole, then get fixed.

Hey, you'd at least win a popularity contest with this non-procreationist.
Speaking of raising your kids to be entitled Republican assholes, have you seen the commercial where they show Republican candidate Peter Roscom (sp?) with his family and one of his kids is on camera with a fucking popped collar. Which means that A) this kid may walk around like this, and B) Peter Roscom's PR direction and campaign manager thought it would help his campaign if they showed his son popping his collar. I will now spray myself with bear mace.
