B-r-r-r-r-r-r

our furnace crapped out last night. the last few weeks, it's been making this buzzing, electrical noise when it fired up. i'm hoping it's just a blown circuit and that it doesn't cost a million dollars to fix. sears is coming today to look at it, thank god.

it was a bit chilly when i got home last night. the thermostat said 63. i rummaged around in our second closet, downstairs storage area and finally in the dark, dusty meter room and found a radiant space heater. i was looking for our small black ceramic space heater, but to no avail. i lugged the heavy radiant heater up to our third floor unit and commenced cleaning all the dirt and grime off of it. and then came the true test... plugging it in. it worked! huzzah! we had cleaned up the condo so we could get to the furnace room, so we had plenty of room to place it without catching anything on fire. scott had turned on our LCD TV to get some heat in the room, ha! we closed the doors to the bedrooms, put on sweaters and another pair of socks and talked about disney. it wasn't too bad. a wee bit chillier than usual, but 64 isn't too bad.

we have a heated mattress cover so i turned that on early so the bed wouldn't be an icicle when we went to bed. i put my PJs between the sheets so they would be warm, too. :) i'm so damn smart. sleeping wasn't too bad. i was actually too warm in the middle of the night. we also had a down comforter, a knit blanket and a wool blanket on us. yeah, too much. we usually crank down the heat when we go to bed anyway, so it was really too warm. guh. that's a good thing, tho.

it was 58 in the condo when we woke up. the silver lining to this cold cloud is that i wasn't woken up at 5:45am by the blast furnace in our bedroom. it gets so damn hot in there when the heat comes on that it wakes me up. but getting up to 58 degrees was a little rough. no showers were taken. got dressed quickly, put on long sleeves, long sweater and a cardigan. then squeezed into my wool coat. heard a stitch pop with that one. oooops. too many layers.

on the way out the door, what do i see in a basket outside in the hallway: our black ceramic space heater. oh, well. i hope we don't need it tonight.
