more dead people

so, my sister and scott and i went to my mom's house this past weekend for free food and some belated gift exchanges. when we had gone out there for Thanksgiving last year, i had made a wrong turn and we ended up driving past this very strange, abandoned cemetery in the middle of a concrete suburban jungle. no sign, no gate or fence, nothing. and all effort to find it on the internet turned up bubkus. so, i made the suggestion that we leave early on sunday morning and see if we can't find said cemetery.

we found it.

in the blustery cold, we took pictures and walked around. there seemed to be rows of some sort, but a big empty section right in the middle, which makes me wonder if there didn't used to be a church or some kind of out-building there. i tried to document as many gravestones as i could with my digital camera. here's what i came up with.

on monday, i received an email from shannon, claiming the name of this mystery cemetery. Immanuel Lutheran. i wish we could find more history on it. maybe that would require someone contacting the Des Plaines Historical Society.

sez on the interment list for Immanuel Lutheran that the stone you have listed as 'Fredrick & Karoline?' is Friedrick and Karolina Ehrlich. must have been above-ground when the list was taken.
