whoops

this is what greeted us on the way to the train today:

it appears there was a water main break that collapsed the road at Montrose and Honore. They shut the brown line station down for a little while, but it was reopened by the time we got there at around 7am. this picture was taken from the el platform.

i wondered aloud to scott if this water main break has anything to do with another sink-hole just down the alley at Berteau and Ravenswood. There is a drain at a low point in the road (see pic of where drain is here) and when i drove past it the other day, it was completely caved in. another whoops. i imagine it's only a matter of time before the whole city caves in. hopefully sooner rather than later.
