another one bites the dust

they're tearing down buildings left and right in my neighborhood. it seems that nothing over 80 years old can be spared from the wrecking ball. DePaul University's Hayes-Healy Athletic Building is no different. you'd think that something this old and beautiful would be spared from demolision. nope. articles in the chicagoist and the CTA tattler show that not only does no one with a voice care about these buildings, but that they are proponants of this type of progress. it seems that if you have enough money and know how to abuse the system, anything can be torn down. and i watched it with my own eyes.

the bottom lounge is another building that has gone the way of the wrecking ball, again for the CTA. you can see pics of that here, thanks to my ever-watchful sister.
