i'm such a tulle

i thought i'd be crafy and make my own veil. for those of you not in the know, tulle (pronounced TOOL) is a meshy fabric that is used for veils, overlays and ligierie bags. it's annoying, slippery and has little to no stiffness to it. the first veil i made i attached to a barrette, thinking i would do my hair up. but then i changed my mind and decided i should attach it to a comb instead. thinking i was running out of time, i ordered one off ebay for $10. but i was so excited to only be spending $10 on a veil that i ordered the wrong color. and any attempt to contact her had been useless. so i made a second veil attached to a comb. but it was wimpy, only 18" across. for those of you who've actually worn a veil, you know that many of them are 72" to 108" across (not the length, which have actual labels, like "cathedral" and "elbow"). so yeah, that wasn't going to work. i wish i would have realized that before i sewed the ribbon along the edge like a vascular surgeon sewing an capilary. so i went back to the original stuck on that barrette. i clipped it off, jammed it onto a crappy plastic comb (no easy feat) and then proceeded to sew a ribbon onto the top tier (the first one only having one tier). once i got that done, i realized that it was kind of crooked. then i proceeded to trim the second tier to match the first one. hahahahahahaha!!! i managed not to trim it all off, but it still doesn't quite match. so i'm going to bring to my mom's this weekend and get her (and my maid of honor's) opinion.

my mom also offered to purchase a real veil, but i'm not ready to give up on all the time i've spent. if they laugh themselves hoarse at my hand-made veil, then i'll be all for it.
