i just want to bitch

so, last last saturday, scott and i went out to zion to sit down with the guy from the resort to talk about the details of the wedding. as we got into the nitty gritty, we got into a "discussion" about the number of people who are coming. we told him that we're probably going to have about 75 people, which is much less than we anticipated. well, it turns out that we signed our contract with a "guarantee" filled in a little box, saying that 129 people were coming. OK, 129 is the number of people we invited, but certainly not the number of people who are going to show up. i certainly didn't fill in that number, it was done by the previous woman, who has since left the resort. so i said, well, can't we lower that number? of course, i was so flabbergasted at the idea that anyone would agree to the number of people coming to the event 3 months before the actual event that i completely lost any hope of arguing my point.

basically, the guy thinks that since that "guarantee" had been filled in when we signed the contract, he thinks we should pay for all 129 people. have any of you, who have ever been married, have you ever heard of such a thing? no, me neither. so in crappy negotiations, i got him down to a 100 person guarantee, which i didn't think would be too bad.

upon going home and actually looking at the remainder of outstanding RSVPs, we found that in no way were we even going to come close to having 100 people. so, not only am i upset that no one seems to care about coming to our wedding, but now we're going to have to pay for it anyway. WHICH IS TOTAL BULLSHIT.

so i faxed a copy of our contract to a lawyer-friend i know (who is the best person in the world!) so she could take a look. basically, what it boils down to, is that the guy from the resort is compeletly out of his tree. in clause 3, it says we have until 10 days before the wedding to confirm the amount of guests that are coming to the wedding, which we knew. of course, if i could have gotten my head out of my ass when we met with him, then i would have brough that point up... why the hell am i confirming with you 10 days before if you're just charging me for 129 people? whatever. their contract is writting with confliciting clauses and nothing that is outlined very clearly. and the more i sit here and think about it, the angrier i get.

so i'm a little stressed out about this. i've called him this morning and left a message for him to call me back. then i called back again, hoping to talk to an actual person who can tell me if he's in the resort at all. i'm freaking out and there isn't anything i can do about until he calls back... if he does.

if we can save this money on these non-existing people, then maybe i can spend it on flowers or better favors or just keep that damn money for myself and spend it on something that actually exists... like real estate.

i know they're hosting our wedding. but we chose them, not the other way around. they're not doing us any favors. we're willing to pay for what we're going to get, but not a fucking dime more. and what it really boils down to is how he treated us like we signed the Magna Carta instead of some stupid "hey, have your dumb event here" contract that could easily be changed with no problem. i told him, "well, i know you guys just want the money, but i'd rather just keep it for myself." he seemed to take light offense to that, but c'mon! that's what it's really all about. NO WAY WOULD I HAVE AGREED TO SOLIDIFY MY GUEST LIST BEOFRE I HAD EVEN SENT OUT THE INVITATIONS. who the hell would do that? and what venue would expect that from someone? no one who wanted to keep business would, that's for damn sure.

so i'm not above contacting the Better Business Bureau if need be. this is total crap and i'm planning on resolving it one way or the other.

so that's what i'm upset about. and i can't get a hold of anyone to bitch to, which is also making me very antsy. it's like everyone's just dropped off the face of the earth. oh, well. we're still having a wedding, right?

Seems like that guy has HIS head up HIS ass! You should be able to alter the number of attending guests until the 10 days prior, like you don't have enough on your plate already this dick is adding to it ? Want me to hop a plan and kick his ass ?!?
