random rules?

according to my husband, The Onion AV Club has a feature called "Random Rules" where they ask a celebrity to put their iPod on shuffle and they comment on the first 5 or so tracks that come up, not skipping anything, embarrassing guilty pleasures included. So I figured I'd try the same thing because hey, i love to embarrass myself in the blogosphere.

1. helmut, biscuits for smut (pooch mix). i'm a huge remix fan. if you love a song, why wouldn't you not love it more redone 500 different ways. this song came out in 1994. i hate the original version, but i heard this remix on the radio once and thought it was totally awesome. of course, finding it was a whole other story. i bought the single ('cause there were no online downloads back then) and found out that the remix on it WASN'T THE RIGHT ONE!! grrrrr. so i gave up. but then after discussing this with my sister, she gave me a mix CD with the right remix on it! oh, joyous day!

2. elvis costello, waiting for the end of the world. scott put elvis on my ipod after i express a slight like for his bass lines. of the music he gave me, i actually like very little of it (sorry, scott). i'm not sure i would even listen to this song at all.

3. faith no more, falling to pieces. who doesn't love mike patton's whining, undecipherable lyrics? when i was trying to find "midlife crisis" by FNM online, i accidently downloaded two others. this one isn't too bad... i might listen to it 1 out of 5 times when it comes around.

4. fluke, absurd (whitewash edit). i love fluke. i love their remixes. this one is a little more techno-y than the original, from the album "risotto." i think this remix version is on the tomb raider soundtrack. i also am a big fan of "set back" and "kitten moon."

5. fat boy slim, first down. off of their* better album "better living through chemistry," this song isn't quite as annoying as some of the others. "next to nothing" is a great song. i also like their "magic carpet ride" remix (sorry, steppenwolf). the other huge album they had out, you've come a long way, baby," had the unfortunate song "rockafella skank." oh, how i hate that song. i don't even have any songs from that album on my ipod. bleh.

*as senor bevis points out, fatboy slim is one guy, Quentin Leo Cook. so my plurals seems to reflect that it's a band with multiple members, which it is not. my bad.

And now comes to the time in the show where I'm going to be an ass, but I'm going to do it in the name of future knowledge. Fatboy Slim, while not the best stage name, is a "he."
