california dreamin'

i am here in california, soakin' up the sun. actually, it's cooler here than in chicago. but i'm here at the paradise pier hotel, using the wireless and watching law and order. they have free wireless, which is a lifesaver. i don't think i could deal with being here with only 10 channels and a book about cholera. but i have a bitchin' view of Disney's California Adventure. when i walked home, i could hear people screaming as they rode a roller coaster.

i'm also staying alone in a hotel room with two queen beds and a sofa that pulls out. it seems like such a waste, but then the US doesn't really make hotel rooms for singles. when i went to london, i got a room about the size of our old bathroom that had a bed and a desk and that's it. really, that's about all you need if you're being a tourist. i guess if you're traveling for business, you might need a little more than that. like a bathroom not shared by other people on your floor.

the thing i hate about traveling is being at the disposal of every greasy food chain that's within walking or delivery distance from your hotel. i had walked a mile each way to get subway when i got here at 2pm. i just now ordered pizza hut, which i plan on using for snack and/or dinner for the rest of the time i'm here. i would rather just have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and a yogurt, but i know of no stores within walking distance. and i'm allergic to milk, so any cereal breakfast here at the hotel will wreck me within hours. oh, well, what can i do?

i took some pictures on my way back to my hotel after set-up, but i didn't bring my camera's cable, so i can't upload them. two words: palm trees.

alright, time to hit the hay. maybe more tomorrow.
