and finally... my sister's christmas party

by popular demand....

last thursday, i went to my sister's company holiday party. it was at the lucky strike bowling alley, which i mentioned previously. but let me digress... the lucky strike used to be on lincoln avenue and it was a bar, pool hall and bowling alley. i had never been in the bowling alley part because it was really small, only 10 lanes, and usually booked up. but last summer, the lucky strike changed their name to the 7 and 10 but pretty much stayed the same. so when my sister said she was having her party at the lucky strike, i was like, "hey, but they changed their name." no, some snotty "lettuce entertain you"-like company bought the name and put a bowling alley in the AMC cinema theater building on illinois. and let me tell you, it's filled with suits and legs as far as the eye can see. this is where the beautiful people go after work. with bouncers and waitress with skirts that barely cover their asses, complete with fishnets.

ok, now that i've set the scene, let me tell you that i walked to this place and was soaking wet and sweating my ass off in the midst of these people. and i sat there for 45 minutes waiting for shannon to come. i assumed the lateness was because of the snow. and i was right. she comes stumbing in, covered in snow and apple-cheeked. "i thought you were going to be driving over with people." she said that she was, but that they had all left without her. d'oh! so, we joined the party and partook of the over-fried appetizers. she introduced me to as many coworkers as she could and then we started to bowl.

let me say that bowling is not my strong suit. my shining moment was when i got a strike and then a got a spare. i ended that game with an 85. woo-hoo! but i had a good time. and, according to my sister, they never brought out the pizza i was waiting for. but all of the fried appetizers gave me indigestion, so i wasn't hungry anyway. and i had to hoof it to the train and then to my car and then i had to unbury it. but then, you already knew all of that.

my favorite part of the evening: one of my sister's coworkers, steve, telling us the story about how he met his wife by stalking her on the bus they both took daily. heh. it was cute. and he was really cool. as were all of the other people she works with. lucky girl. all i have at my work is liz and sometimes, if my timing is right, sue. thank god for them or else i would sink into a coma. and IM. thank god for IM.

you forgot to mention you made my boss laugh by divulging your awesome sucking techniques. (at bowling)

it kinda sucked after you left. i wandered around keeping an eye on the cute ex-intern, wishing it seemed less like work.. they even make *bowling* unbearably competitive.
