joining the Prozac nation

i saw my doctor on friday to discuss the results of my colonoscopy. he said everything looked fine, with the exception of increased eosinophils in the biopsied part of my intestine. what does that mean, i asked. "well," he said, "eosinophils increase during an allergic reaction, or during a parasitic infection." he looks at my chart. "your allergy test came back negative. but i don't think you have a parasitic infection. have you been to mexico or any place like that?" well, yes, i said. i've actually eaten a "taco" in tijuana. "huh," says my doctor.

keep in mind, my doctor looks like he just stepped off the set of "The OC." he's blond and he looks like the ink is barely dry on his diploma. NOT that i want to entertain the thought of having a parasitic infection, but if i could get my stomach to stop doing what it does (bloat and drive me NUTS), then i'm willing to be tested. but i didn't say that. i will call him today and say those exact words.

anyway.... he prescribed me some anti-depressants, thinking i have IBS. he said that low doses of ADs can raise the unusually low pain threshold that many IBS patients have. i took the first amitriptyline pills saturday night. and wooooooo.... does it make me tired! and looking at this computer screen all day long is going to send me into fits and starts. maybe it's because i'm so god-forsakenly bored, but man, i'm about to fall asleep. of course, those pills didn't prevent me from getting up at 2am to pee. of course.

so. i am now a statistic. huzzah.
