hello, chicago? meet winter.

so, hello, snow. nice to meet you.

it was cool while it was snowing. it started at about 3pm, just some flurries, but we knew what was coming. when i left work to head out to my sister's company christmas party, it was coming down like crazy. i decided to walk to the Lucky Strike, since it was just over the river. wow, it was really beautiful. i decided to stop into the North Bridge Shops and poke around, since i had some time and i wanted to dry/thaw out. so i touched a $400 sweater in Nordstroms.

anyway, the party was a hoot (more on that later) and bowling was fun, even if all of the food served was fried (did that pizza ever show up, shannon?) i left at about 8:30 and the snow was still coming down. not as hard, but since most of it was on the ground, i guess it had almost considered its job done. i walked around in the snow, mesmerized by how quiet everything was, muffled by the downy fluffiness. of course, in doing so, i almost got hit by a bus. only in chicago.

i got on the train (after buying some gifts at bed bath and beyond) and rode to fullerton. of course, i knew i still had to clear off my car once i found it, if it hadn't been towed by the Streets and Sanitation people. nope, it was still there.
yeah, that's my car. anyway, 20 minutes later, i was able to make a slippery u-turn and head home. then i shoveled snow and put down some salt. 10 minutes later, the plow came through and destroyed everything i had worked so hard to acheive. assholes.

but hey, the streets are pretty clear, and if you don't get hit by a woman in a dark blue beetle (license plate BUGOUT) who is trying to get to Burger King at 7:45am by driving in the bike lane, then you can walk in the street. because no one in chicago can get off their lazy asses and shovel their walks. of course, maybe they did and the damn plows just covered it all up. who knows?

oh, and by the way, we got about 6 inches of snow.

(no, they didn't bring out pizza, per se.. andy's wife got hold of some garlic-y flatbread thing that could have passed for pizza, i guess. and oh jesus, they had this delicious pudding that looked like dog shit. mm!)
