wake up!

i was reading an article in the chicago tribune today about hitting the snooze too many times. then i read the last section:

If you don't want to get sucked into endless snoozing and multiple clocks aren't your thing, consider Clocky. As a corrective to the havoc wreaked on our sleeping habits, Clocky offers a tough-love alternative. It scoots away on two wheels when the alarm goes off, forcing the sleeper to rise from bed and chase it down. Clocky is in production and will be ready for sale (for $30 to $50) in a few months. MIT graduate student Gauri Nanda says she developed it after years of abusing the snooze button.

i know a certain college friend who could have used this. of course, the roaming clock would have found it hard to navigate in her cluttered room. one time, i got up at 9 or 10am to go to class. she had been hitting the snooze since about 8am. after my classes, i came back at 3 or 4. she was still in bed, hitting that snooze every 10 minutes. it was really quite amazing, really.

of course, there were the times when i would just turn her alarm off. boy, did that piss her off! but i thought, "well, she's just going to snooze it anyway. this way, she'll get uninterrupted sleep." ahahahaa! naw, it was really to see how long she'd sleep before getting up.

she is now fully capable of rising before noon. i guess that's what the adult work world does to you.
