the wright group christmas party
'tis the season for useless, money-wasting christmas, er... holiday parties. friday was the first of the mcgraw-hill's holiday parties. we have two, one for our particular section of the company, and then, this thursday, for the entire mcgraw-hill company that's in our building (i think). and that's a lot of people. we have four floors in the prudential building, including standard and poor and business week. yeah, mcgraw-hill owns everything.
anyway, from 1 to 5, we had our wright group christmas party. it was in the fairmont hotel's crystal room. it was like a fucking wedding reception. blue table cloths on 10 or so tables. black-tied butlers handing out some sort of strange appetizers that i couldn't recognize. then we sit down and listen to our president talk about whatever. then we eat. some salad that looks like it's more weeds than lettuce. then they bring out the main course, which is salmon and some meat slab. and dessert was banana bread/cake with coffee ice cream. eh.
i feel like it was a lot of crap for nothing. i would have rather had a bonus instead of that "pomp and circumstance." it's all a show. hey, companies, listen up! we just want money, not food. give us raises for all of the hard work we do to make your stockholders happy. don't throw sushi at us and expect us to be impressed. we know who you are and how you work. it's all smoke and mirrors.
i hate corporate america.
