lights out

so, last night i was very productive. i think i drank too much caffeine or something. anyway, i was trying to get my vaporizor ready so i could have it on when i slept. i'm tired of having a dry, raspy throat when i wake up and the dryness is also aggravating my post nasal drip. pleasant, i know. ANYWAY, i put it on my nightstand, fill it with salty water (like you do) and then i plug it in. i notice that in the same outlet is my electric blanket. i said to myself, self, is this a good idea hooking something with water in it next to something that is electric? but i knew that i wouldn't be sleeping with the blanket on, since it was 55 degrees outside. and i thought i had turned it off from the previous night. oh, was i wrong.

the thing about my apartment is that i have faulty wiring. i have 2 fuses that run my whole apartment i have blown one fuse several times. i learned the hard way that i couldn't run my toaster and my iron at the same time. a/c with iron also a no-no. hairdryer (when putting plastic sheeting on the windows) and toaster, nope. but with the first fuse, i can run my ceramic hair straightener AND my hairdryer and nothing will happen.

i should have been tipped off by the dimming of my lights when the electric blanket cycled on. nope. head up my ass.

so, last night, i'm folding some clothes to put away and BAM! i'm plunged into darkness. i thought my light had shorted out, but no. the rest of the apartment was eerily dark and quiet. crap. the shitty thing is that my landlord is in vegas and i don't have access to my basement. so i called him on his cell phone. he answered and was totally cool about it. i guess he was prepared for such emergencies (as they have happened before) and has given a set of keys to a friend, whom he called right after our conversation. i had rigged up enough cords to keep the fridge running, so i wasn't in dire straights.

i had a dream that i woke up to everything coming on. but when i really woke up, it was still dark. boo. maybe when i get home today, i'll be able to find my way up my treacherous staircase.
