abc news has an article about a model who died because she was suffering from anorexia in order to keep her weight down for her career. many countries are trying to fight the fashion industry's unhealthy view of what "beautiful" looks like. some countries have gone so far as to instate a minimum BMI for models before being hired. but paris and london have this to say:
Designers say that clothes just look better on thin models and that the curves of more shapely models distract from the clothing they are showing off. They say rules and punishments would only stifle creativity.

ideals are only ideals for the people who set them. but this "ideal" of a grown woman looking like a hipless, fatless, 12-year-boy is an unhealthy, unrealistic, unresponsible thing to shoot for. i have a theory that this ideal has been brought about by the gay men in the fashion industry who got tired of looking at all those unappealing curves and decided to push for the 12-year-old boy motif so they would have something to masturbate to when they got home at night.
you know what i say? fuck you, fashion industry. fuck you, clothing catalogs and tv ads. fuck you, hollywood. you'd sell more clothes if you catered to the majority of woman out there, who happen to be a size 12. maybe people would stop harassing you about this anorexia thing if you STOPPED GIVING A SHIT HOW THIN THESE DUMB-ASS MODELS ARE. the clothes won't look any worse on someone who is a size 6. and don't tell me you're trying to cut costs by using less fabric and making the sample clothes smaller. then why would you be charging $2000 for a goddamned dress that you see on the runway that's made with about a half-yard of clothing? i remember, when i was younger, the sample size was an 8. but those chicks on the runway an in glamour are certainly NOT size 8s. the difference in fabric between an 8 and a 0 is about .25 yards of fabric, so don't give me that "we've got to save money" bullshit. how much is one model's life worth to you? $10 more of fabric? these girls probably wouldn't think so.
anyway, that's my tirade for the day.

It's amazing how our society can talk out of both sides of its mouth when it comes to body image. We can praise America Ferrera and Kate Winslet for having "healthy bodies" in Hollywood and then turn around and call Britney Spears "fat." If she's fat, I'm Dom DeLuise.
What's sad is that I know lots of guys who dig the anorexic look and will call the girls I find attractive "fat." Fuck that. I'm a straight man and I'd like to go on record as saying that being super-thin is a turn-off. Not only that, but I thought my last girlfriend was too skinny.
